Sometimes when I've got a good thing goin' on I’d prefer to establish a continuity that leads to a longevity of sorts. Of course, it always depends on the availability of the same participants including an expanded pool of participants who also know how the music is to be performed.

From 1996 to 2015 Oopapada was a trio consisting of the drums, guitar, & organ. A major change that affected the continuity of this instrumentation was the demise of the organ bar or organ lounge in the Detroit, Michigan area. Throughout the 1960s and early 70's, the city was host to a variety of such venues that made it easy for organists to ﬁnd plentiful employment without having to transport a Hammond organ plus a Leslie speaker cabinet.

It should be noted that from 1975 forward the recording industry began to de-emphasize recordings by organists and began promoting groups that utilized the electric piano and, soon afterward, a multitude of various keyboard synthesizers. For me, beginning in 2016, it was obvious that I needed to revamp the quartet of saxophone/trumpet/organ/drums & vocals by substituting and guitar & bass for the organ which made it a quintet. Since then I have become very fond of this instrumentation. The previous CD was titled “In Transition Positional” (Uuquipleu 21515). Our current offering reflects the completion in stabilizing a group sound with a different identity which consistent rehearsals helped to fulfill. Special thanks to the musicians who’ve worked hard to finalize this position.
